Xasthur: Subliminal genocide
30/11/07 || theProphet
Xasthur got my attention after seeing a number of great reviews of “Subliminal Genocide” in the metal press. However, after hearing this manure-on-disc it has become painfully obvious to me that there are no reliable sources out there, save for GD. This, I should have known, of course. Punishment was swift and agonizing. Punishment was checking Xasthur out.
Some of the above mentioned reviews made promises of “a lethal dose of hate” or “pure evil”, and of course I was fooled by these pretty words. My first doubts came when I saw the album length; black metal albums filled with pure evil and hate shouldn’t clock in on more than an hour of playtime. It simply doesn’t work. Anyway, I listened to the album a couple of times, but was always distracted by things that were more funny (I had just painted this wall in my room, and as you can imagine, it takes some serious fucking quality music to tear me away from watching that paint dry…).
Anyway, I refused to give up on this album, so I came up with a plan. I turned off all lights in my room, drowning it in pitch black darkness (obviously…). And, as if that wasn’t enough for atmosphere, I decided to listen to the entire album IN FUCKING HEADPHONES!!! So what did this result in?
I fell asleep after less than half of the album.
Xasthur is an epic failure, nothing more. Don’t expose yourself to this travesty, it made me lose precious time that I will never, ever get back. Don’t do the same mistake I did.
And about the title…“Subliminal Genocide”?!? Get out. Since when is a genocide subliminal?
1 subliminal “FUCK YOU XASTHUR!” out of 10.
